SUFFOLK WILDLIFE TRUST

SUFFOLK BROADS APPEAL

Carlton Marshes

Regular readers will have noticed sightings from Carlton and Oulton Marshes appearing increasingly frequently over the last four years. This increase has been brought about by the creation of scrapes in small, formerly just grass, fields on both of these reserves by the SWT Broads Warden Matt Gooch and his dedicated team of volunteers.

Target
                                met

It was announced at the celebration day at Carlton Marshes on July 7th that the appeal target of £1 million had been reached and that the purchase of the new land had been completed the previous day.

With planning permission for the habitat restoration/improvement already granted the implementation phase can now begin.

Exciting times are ahead for wildlife in the Lowestoft area.

Following the extinction of Downy Emerald in Suffolk (last recorded in 1943) the appearance of an Emerald Dragonfly in the County was always going to be interesting, but it turning out to be a species new to the UK was a surprise to say the least. Hopefully others have crossed the North Sea and await detection elsewhere.
