Birdline East Anglia bird news for Suffolk for October 2007

There was a bountiful bag of migrants from the east to East Anglia this autumn. A few were seen in Suffolk. There were Pallas's Warblers at Thorpeness 21st, Landguard NR 22nd, Bawdsey 23rd-25th and Eastern Bavents 30th. A Barred Warbler was Thorpeness 3rd and up to two Red-breasted Flycatchers were at Landguard NR 2nd-3rd. There was a Great Grey Shrike at Seafield Bay 7th.


A Lesser Yellowlegs turned up at Minsmere RSPB 30th onwards.


A juvenile Sabine's Gull was south of Shingle Street 26th-30th and was probably the same bird seen at Southwold Boating Lake 25th.


The juvenile Marbled Duck remained at Normanston Park at Leathes Ham in Lowestoft until 8th.

Great White Egrets up to two on and off were at Minsmere RSPB 17th-26th and one was seen in flight at Blythburgh 21st & 29th. Up to four Common Cranes remain at Lakenheath Fen RSPB.


A few Rough-legged Buzzards arrived. One flew south over Dunwich to Thorpeness 23rd and headed south over Kessingland and was seen over Dunwich to Thorpeness 27th and one was at Tuddenham 29th.


Late summer birds included two Arctic Tern at Languard 28th, a Woodlark over Landguard 27th


Rare in the North Sea was a Minke Whale off Kessingland 13th
