This unique  man's wrapper cloth is a hybrid Bondoukou version of a classic Asante kente design called "one thousand shields"  - the square motifs that crisscross the cloth are compared to the traditional square Asante shield. Although there is a long history of contact and trade in textiles between Bondoukou and Asante this cloth is likely to have arisen from the experience of many Bondoukou weavers who have worked in the Asante region for extended periods. Unlike most cloths from the Bondoukou area it has a machine spun cotton ground, but differs from the Asante norm in the weight of the cloth and the white borders on each strip.  In excellent condition, dates from circa 1960s.
