One of a very small group of museum quality Bondoukou men's cloths we have located, this dramatic and beautiful piece frames a plain warp striped central field of  thick hand spun indigo dyed cotton with complex borders. At each border the strips have a long supplementary weft float motif in white cotton bounded at each end by weft faced blocks in white, red, and yellow. There are subtle variations throughout in the white float motifs. Braided white tassles also decorate each end, a feature of some Baule and Gouro cloths in Côte D'Ivoire. Collected in a village in the vicinity of Bondoukou in northeast Côte D'Ivoire, this fine piece is complete and intact with no stains or repairs. This extremely rare cloth dates from early in the C20th.
