Aso man's wrapper cloth from mid C20th. Man's wrappers in aso oke, similar in size to the men's kente cloths in Ghana where also worn toga fashion. They were rare because male prestige dress in aso oke weaving areas mostly followed the Islamic form of tailored robes and trousers rather than the older wrapped cloth style. On occasion however aso oke made for use in the south east of the Yoruba area was sewn into cloths for men, and could, on important occasions even be wrapped on top of a tailored robe. This cloth is in very good condition and dates from circa 1940-50. Some of the thin pale blue threads in the pattern have become slightly damaged in places, probably when the cloth was being beaten to press it.
