This rare C19th Yoruba cloth is a very lightweight shawl that alternates strips woven almost entirely from magenta silk alaari from the trans-Saharan caravan trade with a fine hand spun cotton and silk warp striped design. Unfortunately there is some colour run from the central magenta stripe in these cotton strips and one water stain, visible near centre left border on the photo. Otherwise cloth is intact with original sewing and in good condition.
