Tukes is an innovative, non-profit making charity which has been running since 1998. We offer a drug-free, sixteen week treatment programme to adults with an emotional/addictive illness. We accept referrals from throughout the UK. Clients coming to Tukes experience a range of problems: these include anxiety, depression, self-harm, obsessive-compulsive behaviours - washing, checking, cleaning, eating disorders, dependent use of prescribed medication, exercise, shopping, gambling, sex, addictive relationships, compulsive helping, as well as drug or alcohol dependency.Tukes uses an approach based upon the 12 step abstinence model, incorporating the first 5 steps of the Emotions Anonymous self help programme. The charity is named after William Tuke, the Quaker, and the approach incorporates the common sense and humanity of his pioneering,18th Century work.
