Status in Britain: Nationally Scarce

This Sphagnum moss is predominantly a rich brown to golden-yellow in colour and thereby readily distinguished from many other species of the same genus. It is found in flushes and poor fens, sometimes in swamps, but never in very acid conditions. It is likely to be underrecorded due to previous confusion with the related Sphagnum auriculatum var. inundatum.
