Status in Britain: Common
This is an easily-recognised moss with its distinctive bottle-brush
appearance when moist. Leaves are longly pointed with longitudinal folds
in their surface, have a prominent nerve, and a toothed margin. The stems
are covered in a dense brown tomentum.
It is found in a variety of wet or flushed situations including
rock ledges, neutral flushes in acidic damp grassland and streamsides.
